At Rufforth Primary School, we are dedicated to ensuring every child has the opportunity to engage in a wide range of physical activities, both for their health and well-being and to foster a lifelong love of sport. This year’s PE and Sport Premium grant has been strategically invested to achieve a positive and lasting impact across our school community. We have focused on key areas including increasing pupil participation, improving staff confidence and competence, and providing targeted support for disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Our commitment to raising the profile of PE and sport has had a positive impact on all pupils, as evidenced by increased engagement and participation in both lessons and extra-curricular activities.

A significant portion of our funding was allocated to enhancing opportunities and improving provision across the school. This included spending on internal school-based extra-curricular opportunities, inter-school sports competitions, and external coaching staff. We have successfully increased the number of pupils participating in school sport and extra-curricular activities, ensuring a broader and more equal experience for all. Notably, we have targeted specific spending on providing free-of-charge before and after-school clubs for disadvantaged pupils and have used training and peer-to-peer activities to improve girls’ access to PE and sport.

The long-term sustainability of these improvements is a key priority. Our investment in internal learning and development for staff has led to a positive impact on their confidence and competence in teaching PE and sport, ensuring that high-quality provision continues beyond the grant funding period. We are also proud to report that our Year 6 pupils have shown excellent attainment in swimming and water safety, with 86% of the cohort able to swim 25 metres, use a range of strokes, and perform safe self-rescue. The positive impacts on pupil attainment in PE, physical activity levels, and overall participation demonstrate that our investment is creating a legacy of health and fitness for our pupils.
