“History has shown us that courage can be contagious.”
At Rufforth, we want our pupils to be inspired to know more about Britain’s past and that of the wider world. History can help children to make sense of the world in which they live and can help them to develop a sense of identity. Our aim is that children are inspired to understand that the society in which we live has been shaped by developments in the past.
We want children at Rufforth to be ‘history detectives’: we aim for children to have the desire to find out about their predecessors and to be open minded in how they explore and engage with the past.
Examining different cultures and how they have contributed in historical terms will gives children an awareness of our own multi-cultural identity.
We intend for our history curriculum to make a profound and positive impact on the outcomes of every pupil. Children will learn to make effective decisions, make links across areas of learning, and be respectful of the views of others, as well as developing their understanding of significant aspects of the history of the wider world.
